General election analysis and briefing fund

The Fraser of Allander Institute at the University of Strathclyde will draw out the implications of the parties’ manifesto commitments for Scotland. As well as publishing a series of briefs on key policy areas, they’ll hold webinars to set out the current state of Scottish devolution and present their key findings (£31,680).

The Institute for Fiscal Studies will undertake in-depth analysis focused on a range of topics relating to the public finances, taxation, living standards and public service spending. Proactive and responsive outputs, including reports and comment pieces, will be collated on a dedicated website with a resource hub. Additional activities will include a high-profile press event shortly before the election (£70,000).

The National Institute for Economic and Social Research will use their suite of statistical models to assess the likely effects of the parties’ proposals, with a focus on topics such as the macroeconomy, trade, productivity, labour supply, levelling up and the green transition. They will produce their own ‘manifesto’ of policy priorities and, once the election is called, hold further briefings and events (£50,000).

The Resolution Foundation will produce a series of scene-setting reports to inform public debates on a range of economic issues potentially including growth and productivity, the labour market, living standards, welfare and regional inequalities. These will be followed by further outputs including analysis of the parties’ manifestos and events around the country (£70,000).

The Nuffield Trust will collate and summarise the evidence on key issues in health and social care to establish ‘tests’ against which the parties’ manifesto commitments and public claims during the election campaign can be measured. In addition to five accessible briefings, they’ll produce resource packs for journalists and develop a new NHS funding tracker to complement their established staffing one (£45,310).
