We believe that all countries need qualified professional personnel for economic development and delivery of health, education and other services.
Through the Africa Programme, we invest in UK/Africa partnerships to increase the professional and academic training available for people in eastern and southern Africa.
We work closely with other foundations that fund activities in developing countries, to develop funding collaborations and further policy in this field.
Following the Trustees' review of the first years of operation of the Africa Programme, it has been decided to move to a more focused and proactive scheme, supporting three or four large, collaboratively funded, activities. The first two of these - neglected tropical diseases and mental health in resource poor settings - are already underway.
The Africa Programme is not open to applications.
