Graduates in the early years workforce: how important are degrees for early years staff and the children they care for?

By Nuffield Foundation

This webinar launched the findings of two key research projects the Nuffield Foundation has funded about the early years workforce and how important staff qualifications, particularly early years degrees, are for the outcomes of the children they work with and the staff themselves.

Dr Sara Bonetti from the Education Policy Institute presented the findings from the grant she led on the early years workforce exploring the relationship between the qualifications of staff working in early years settings and the educational outcomes of children at ages 5, 7 and 11 years.

Dr Verity Campbell-Barr from the University of Plymouth presented findings from the grant she led about early years degrees mapping what early years degrees entails, the extent to which they can equip graduates to provide high quality early years education, as well as describing the career pathways of early years graduates and whether having a degree make a difference to their employment opportunities.

Following the presentation, a panel of speakers considered the implications of the findings for early years policy, early years degrees and staff and children themselves.
