Our priorities during the COVID-19 pandemic are to support our staff, our grant-holders and the young people who participate in our student programmes, as well as to fund research that addresses the wider social significance of the pandemic.

We remain committed to being an open, collaborative and engaged funder. Our aim is to support the social science research community to deliver successful projects that have a positive impact on people’s lives.

Information for grant-holders

We understand that the pandemic and the uncertainty and disruption it creates may have an impact on your ability to deliver your Nuffield-funded project as originally proposed. If you find this is the case, please get in touch with us at the earliest opportunity and we will work with you to determine the best way we can support you to achieve the objectives of your project. We will endeavour to be flexible wherever possible and to respond promptly to all enquiries.

Information for applicants

We will continue our assessment of all funding applications currently underway. We will be in touch with applicants if we have any questions about the likely impact of the pandemic on their application or if the disruption leads to a delay in our timetable.

We are continuing to accept new funding applications in line with our usual timetable, but we are keeping this under review as the longer-term implications of the pandemic become clearer. We will continue to listen to the views of the research community, and should it be in the best interests of applicants to extend deadlines then we will do so.

For information on application dates, please see our funding page.

To keep in touch with our work, including any alterations to application deadlines, please sign-up for our newsletter.

COVID-19: our response

We have awarded £2 million for research that will help identify how to mitigate the social impacts of the pandemic, particularly for those who are worst affected.
