What are the social foundations of a strong economy?

By Nuffield Foundation

We hosted an event exploring one of the central themes of our Strategic Review – the role of effective social policy in underpinning a strong and inclusive economy.

There is growing recognition that the UK’s economic potential is being held back by weaknesses in our approach to education and skills, health, housing and more. Equally, it’s very clear that some of our most acute societal challenges flow from sustained economic underperformance.

This event brought together leading voices from public policy, local government, academia and business to consider how evidence and innovation can help build a fairer, more resilient economy in the years ahead.
