Estimating measures

Estimating measures is a theme within connecting measurement and decimals. Links to relevant activities and resources are on the right hand side of this page.

When learning to estimate measures, a range of research suggests that learners need many different experiences of estimating in order to internalise suitable benchmarks for various measures such as length, mass, angle, time, area, volume, temperature, and so on. Through these different experiences, students develop strategies for making estimates and for improving the accuracy of their estimating.
