Trustees are recruiting a new Director of the Nuffield Foundation

By Nuffield Foundation

The Foundation is looking for a new Director to work with Trustees and senior management to set and implement the strategic direction for the Foundation; exploiting its independence to oversee the development of new and existing programmes, and to represent the work of the Foundation at large.

The closing date for applications was 13 February 2012.

This follows the decision of Anthony Tomei to retire as Director, having worked for the Foundation since 1977. Anthony was appointed Assistant Director in 1981 and Director in 1995. Among his many achievements at the Foundation are the development of the Foundation’s science programmes; its work in curriculum development; and its support for integrated education in Northern Ireland. He has served on a number of national committees and has been active in the strategic management of the Foundation’s investment portfolio.

We improve people’s lives by funding research that informs social policy, primarily in Education, Welfare and Justice. We also fund student programmes that give young people skills and confidence in science and research.

We offer our grant-holders the freedom to frame questions and enable new thinking. Our research must stand up to rigorous academic scrutiny, but we understand that to be successful in effecting change, it also needs to be relevant to people’s experience.
