Description: Pupils design an emergency shelter to protect three people from the wind and rain. The shelter will be made from a rectangular piece of tent material measuring 4 metres by 3 metres, and they will need to identify any other materials required.

Suitability: Pupils working at all levels in small groups

Time: Minimum of 1 hour

Equipment: Tape measure or metre rule Squared paper Calculator Straws, wire, or pipe cleaners Scissors, sticky tape, glue Cloth (material), needles and thread
