How medicines work

We need medicines when our bodies don’t work as they should. Some medicines will treat and cure a problem; others simply treat the symptoms of the problem.

Experiments

• No stomach for it: investigating antacid medication
  Monitor the changing pH of a sample of dilute hydrochloric acid as doses of over-the-counter antacid preparations dissolve.
• Modelling effect of aspirin on blood clots
  This model demonstrates that clearing a blocked blood vessel will improve blood flow.
