Distribution of organisms

Discovering environmental preferences could start by making observations of existing distributions in nature, or by giving organisms choices and observing how they distribute themselves over time.

Experiments

• Observing patterns in the distribution of a simple plant
  Use a quadrat to estimate the population density of a simple plant that grows on the bark of trees. Relate its distribution to environmental factors.
• Investigating the response of worms to soil improvers
  Add biochar to compost (or soil) and investigate whether worms prefer compost (or soil) with or without this additive.
