About us

We describe tried and tested biology experiments, in sufficient detail that they will work in any school laboratory. We provide notes about teaching and learning, and a few web-links. The site is particularly useful for teachers and technicians who wish to develop their practical craft in biology.

Work on the site started in 2008 and experiments will be added to the site gradually. For a complete list of what is on this site, click here.

Who we are

This is a joint project of the Nuffield Foundation and the Society of Biology in association with CLEAPSS, and with the generous sponsorship of other organisations involved in bioscience education.

Nuffield Science and Mathematics Education explores new approaches to teaching and learning by developing, managing and supporting curriculum projects. Increasingly its projects are run in partnership with others.

The Society of Biology actively works to influence policy and strategy in biology-based research - including funding and the interface with other disciplines - and in school and university teaching.

CLEAPSS is an advisory service for subscribers, supporting practical science and technology in schools and colleges.

The editor of this website is now Carol Levick, working with Maja Melendez of the Nuffield Foundation Curriculum Programme, and CLEAPSS who provide safety and technicians' advice. We are grateful to Sue Assinder, Neil Roscoe and Deborah Parren for getting the site started.
