The Citizenship project worked with teachers to develop resources to help with teaching Citizenship through other subjects: Business studies, English, Geography, Maths, History, Languages, PE, and Science.
Topics included ‘Are floods an Act of God?’ on the complexity of evaluating choice in relation to the interaction between people and the environment, and ‘Food miles and data interpretation’.
Standalone projects were also developed including 'Running a campaign' and (with the Nuffield Council on Bioethics) 'The use of animals in research'.
It later turned out that most schools were teaching Citizenship as a standalone subject or as part of PSHE, so the resources designed to teach it as part of other school subjects had limited impact.
Learning Citizenship: Practical teaching strategies for secondary schools - a book that includes topics such as how to address controversial issues, developing discussion and debate, and learning through role play.
