Education overview

The Nuffield Foundation is committed to improving education opportunities and outcomes for all. We have supported innovative research and development in education for over 60 years.
Our education work is in three main areas: research; resources for teachers; and capacity-building programmes.
Research
The Foundation’s education research programme currently has five priority areas:
- Foundations for learning
- Science education
- Mathematics education
- Secondary education transitions
- Student parents and women’s education
Outside of these priority areas the Foundation has in recent years funded a number of other education projects.
Resources for teachers
The Foundation has developed a range of classroom and professional development resources, in science, mathematics and other subjects.
Building capacity in science and research
Science Bursaries for Schools and Colleges. This programme provides work experience in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) for students in their first year of an advanced or higher level course.
Undergraduate Research Bursaries for students to work on scientific research projects over the summer.
Oliver Bird Rheumatism Programme, which offers PhD studentships for research in rheumatic disease.
