Appointment of Assistant Director

The Foundation has appointed Josh Hillman as Assistant Director with responsibility for the Foundation's work in education.
Josh is the former Head of Education Policy at the BBC. He was responsible for the development of education policy for the BBC’s output across media for children and adults, including partnerships with government, other public sector bodies, and research organisations. Josh was previously Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Public Policy Research. He was author of IPPR's blueprint for the University for Industry; was joint Director of the UfI pilot project in the North East; and was seconded to the then Department for Education and Skills to help develop the policy. Other IPPR projects included a book co-written with Nick Pearce on policies for 14- to 19-year-olds. Before joining IPPR, Josh worked for the National Commission on Education, throughout its existence, as one of its two research officers.
Between these posts, Josh has worked as a consultant for a wide variety of organisations, including the then Department of Education and Science, the then Employment Department, OFSTED, the University of London Institute of Education, and Andersen Consulting. Josh was adviser to the Stevenson Committee on information and communications technologies in schools established in 1995 by Tony Blair. He was also a member of the Learning Skills Development Agency board, a Trustee of the National Extension College, a Board member of UK Skills, and a member of the Learning Skills Council’s Distributed and Electronic Learning Group.
