Nuffield Bursar wins first prize
Nuffield bursar, Elisabeth Muller, has had great success at the EU Contest for Young Scientists held in Copenhagen, Denmark, winning First Prize.
Elisabeth will receive €7000 towards her future studies and will be offered a place to attend the prestigious and stylish Stockholm International Youth Science Seminar at the end of the year. There she will get to meet Nobel prize winners and listen to talks and debates on the latest science research as well as getting to know a select group of the best young scientists chosen from around the world. The event and her prize show that science really can offer a lot of opportunities for young people and open up a world of exploration.
Elisabeth won her place at the EU Contest after impressing judges at the Young Scientists’ and Engineers’ Fair held in London during National Science and Engineering Week earlier this year, attended by the UK’s top young scientists. Her project, ‘From microcosm to Magma Oceans: A lunar meteorite perspective’, which investigated the early processes that shaped the moon by looking at a lunar meteorite sample mineralogy, earned her a Gold BA CREST Award and the trip to Copenhagen. She also dazzled the judges in the UK by also winning the Royal Society International Expedition Prize which will take her to New Zealand later this year. At the EU Contest, Elisabeth competed against a further 100 plus students of the brightest and most talented young people from 39 countries around Europe and the rest of the world.
