New Chair for ENEF

The Elizabeth Nuffield Educational Fund is delighted to announce that Fran Bennett is to take over from Anne Sofer as Chair of the ENEF Committee in November, when the latter stands down after 12 years’ service on the Committee.

Fran BennettFran Bennett is a half-time senior research fellow in the Department of Social Policy and Social Work, University of Oxford, where her main areas of interest are poverty, gender and social security issues. She is a member of the Women's Budget Group, and has had a longstanding association with ATD Fourth World. She is also a research associate of the Institute for Fiscal Studies. In addition, she is a self-employed consultant/policy analyst in social policy, engaged on a variety of consultancies and projects at local, national and EU level. She is joint editor of the Social Policy Digest, a monthly on-line update of social policy developments available as part of the Journal of Social Policy, and is also a member of the JSP and Benefits journal editorial boards. She has had a long-standing connection with Oxfam's UK Poverty Programme. Fran is involved in her local advice centre, where she is the treasurer, and is also a member of her local Child Poverty Action Group branch.
Previous employment includes work on welfare rights and social security policy for the GMB trades union (1978-83); the posts of deputy director and then director of the Child Poverty Action Group (1983-93); part-time teaching at South Bank University, London, and Ruskin College (Oxford) (1993-98); and policy advisor on UK and EU poverty issues (jobshare) for Oxfam's UK Poverty Programme (1998-2001).
