Science Bursaries for Schools and Colleges

London bursary students win the chance to display their bursary projects at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA

Two London bursary students have won the chance to display their projects at the The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair which will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA from May 7-13, 2006.

Natalie and Rachel were chosen by a panel of expert science and engineering judges to represent Exscitec and Imperial College at the Intel Science and Engineering Fair in Indianapolis next year.

Natalie Zhang from the North London Collegiate School took part in a bursary project this summer titled “Structural Studies of RNA Pseudoknots involved in Programmed - 1 Ribosomal Frameshifting using X Ray Chystallography”. Her placement was for 4 weeks at the National Institute of Medical Research.

Rachel Amos from the City of London School for Girls had a 6 week bursary placement in the Department of Chemistry at Imperial College London. Her project was the “Determination of the Eutectic Point for Binary Mixtures of Thermotropic Compounds”.

The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) is the world's largest pre-college celebration of science. Held annually in May, the Intel ISEF brings together over 1,400 students from more than 40 nations to compete for scholarships, tuition grants, internships, scientific field trips and the grand prize.
