Dr Evan Killick and Dr Diana Weinhold
Development Studies Institute, London School of Economics
£169,965 over 3 years

Dr Evan Killick and Dr Diana Weinhold will combine econometric and anthropological methods to assess the relationship between the growth in soybean cultivation and local levels of poverty in the Brazilian Amazon. Using quantitative and qualitative methods, they will examine the social and economic costs on the local population. The study will enable Dr Killick to develop skills in econometric analysis. It will provide the grant holders with an opportunity to develop ways of integrating data produced and analysed by econometric and ethnographic methodologies to inform an issue of economic and environmental concern.
