Dr Martha Chinouya and Ms Eileen O'Keefe
Department of Applied Social Science, London Metropolitan University
£89,589 over 2 years
Dr Martha Chinouya and Ms Eileen O'Keefe will explore how migrant black Africans from Zimbabwe living in London and Luton manage their HIV status within their communities and the moral, legal, social and economic influences on the disclosure of their HIV-positive status to their family and communities. The research will draw on the concepts of Ubuntu-Hunhu, which reflect cultural norms and duties, and have implications for community duties and entitlements. Dr Chinouya will develop qualitative research skills, knowledge of social capital, human rights, migration, and the transformation of African culture in a ‘world city’.
