Dr Sarah Salway and Dr Emily Grundy
London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine
£76,813 over three years
Dr Salway and Dr Grundy plan to investigate the household structure and livelihoods of Bangladeshi households in the UK and urban Bangladesh using quantitative data analysis and ethnographic methods. They will explore the interplay of economic, social and cultural factors in the experience of poverty within households, with particular attention to the role played by age and gender. The partnership will develop Dr Salway’s methodological skills to include quantitative techniques and extend her linguistic skills to include the Sylheti dialect as well as Bengali.
