Social cognition in deaf and hearing children

Dr Want and Professor Siegal will examine the social understanding of deaf children in their interactions with other people. The work includes various comparison groups, including hearing children, children with ‘signing’ parents and children without access to ‘signing’ parents. In partnership with Professor Siegal the Fellowship will develop Dr Want’s methodological skills, including his ability to sign; Dr Want’s previous work had been on imitation and was not specifically concerned with deafness. This partnership will be based in a research team that includes Dr Merideth Gattis and Dr Olivier Pascalis.
