Dr Alexiades and Professor Ellen have been awarded £100,000 over three years for their study 'Environmental knowledge, perception and social interaction in an Amazonian landscape'.

They are interested in the role played by human beings in environmental change. They will use ethnographic, ecological and ethno-botanical approaches to explore how a range of actors interacts with the landscape and with each other in an Amazonian conservation-priority region. Dr Alexiades, originally an environmental scientist will develop his conceptual knowledge in social anthropology, social geography, and ethnographic methodology.
