Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London: Developing primary care of mental disorders in Kenya.
This joint initiative with The Kenyan Ministry of Health and the Kenya Psychiatric Association will develop mental health services at community level for the Kenyan population. Building on a pilot scheme in one district of Kenya, the project will train primary care professionals to deliver mental health care and treatment at the local level. A parallel media campaign and the development of patient family groups within communities will seek to reduce the stigma attached to mental illness.
