Professor Sir David Watson MA PhD
Sir David was Vice Chancellor of the University of Brighton (formerly Brighton Polytechnic) from 1990. He retired from the post in September 2005 and took up a new Chair at the Institute of Education, University of London. An historian by training, Sir David has contributed widely to developments in UK higher and further education. He has been a member of numerous committees and commissions including the Dearing Committee on Higher Education, the Hamlyn Foundation’s National Commission on Education and the ESRC’s Teaching and Learning Research Programme, which he chaired. He is currently a member of the Board of the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority and chaired the Advisory Committee for the Foundation’s Review of Education and Training 14 - 19 in England and Wales. Sir David became a Trustee in October 2005.
