Extended Project Qualification
Working in partnership with Gatsby Technical Education Projects, the Nuffield Foundation developed resources for A-level Extended Project Qualifications (EPQs).
Our EPQ resources cover all subjects but draw on the skill development work of the Learning Skills for Science project.
The resources are published by Nelson Thornes - see their website. The resources consist of:
- Student companion
- Supervisor pack
The awarding body associated with these publications is AQA. Edexcel and OCR run similar specifications. The resources were written by Mary James and Gillian Dale, and edited by Angela Hall and Jean Scrase.
About EPQs
An A-level (or Diploma level 3) Extended Project helps students to become better autonomous learners and enables them to study a topic of particular interest to them. It helps them to develop their research and project management skills including:
- planning and time management,
- identifying and evaluating resources and using the Internet effectively
- recording and analysing data,
- producing the project product including a written report
- making a presentation.
The EPQ assesses the process the students have gone through rather than just the final outcome.
Feedback
‘We’ve already bought 20 student books and one supervisor file. The student books are particularly helpful and the perfect size for students to chuck in their bags.’
‘They’re brilliant, they are!’
