ESRC Festival of Social Science - Why Quantitative Methods? 5 November 2014 Cardiff University SOCSI - Glamorgan Building

Mr Rhys Jones, explains all about the "Why Quantitative Methods" and how it will introduce year 12 and 13 students to the fascinating world of Social Science. It will give them a deeper understanding of the scientific process, how to generate testable research questions, generate data, and analyse and visualise it in a useful and meaningful way. There will also be competitions for students to enter, along with prizes for the luck winners!

Interested schools/colleges will be asked to fill in an online survey (students and teachers) which will be sent out after an expression of interest has been established.

Participants will develop a greater understanding of how science creates new knowledge and information, and in particular the usefulness of this information to society.

There will be plenty of hands on interactive workshops, opportunities for the students to generate their own data, as well as competitions for them to enter to win prizes.  Students and teachers will be provided with welcome packs which will include worksheets and pens, and lunch will also be provided.
