Children and families

We believe that legal, policy and practice frameworks for making decisions affecting families should be based on robust evidence about the best interests of children, especially where they are growing up in adverse conditions.

Through our Children and Families programme we fund research and innovation projects relating to child welfare and development, and child protection.

Details of individual projects in each of these areas, including their outputs where available, can be found by clicking on the relevant link in the Our work in this area section of this page.

We have a separate funding programme for projects in early years education and childcare.

Full details about the priorities and criteria for our Children and Families funding programme, along with information about the application process is available in the apply for funding section.

We also funded a programme of work focussing on time trends in adolescent mental health, which reported in 2012.
